Laboratory
The Lab at MHCC is a pathologist directed, CLIA approved lab in a small hospital. It is located along the I-80 corridor in Rawlins, Wyoming. Our area is one of variety, especially for those who love the outdoors.
Our lab manager is an MT (ASCP) Medical Technologist. Our staff consists of medical technologists and secretary/phlebotomists. Medical techologists are trained professionals in the field of medical laboratory testing. They set up, perform, and control lab tests. Our secretary/phlebotomists are also certified in breath alcohol testing and collect specimens for legal drug screens.
The Lab at MHCC plays a broad part in the care of patients in our area. Our scope of work includes:
-Routine testing of blood and urine on inpatients
-Obtaining and testing samples on outpatients
-Testing of samples for our around the clock Emergency Room
-Collection and preparation of samples for sending tests to reference labs
-Performing blood profiles for our health fair.
Our lab is also a transfusion service working with United Blood Services of Cheyenne, Wyoming. In this capacity, we store in our blood bank a rotating stock of blood as well as fresh plasma. The uses vary from emergencies to regular transfusions for patients with anemia. We also provide blood for surgical patients and type the blood for newborns.
To accomplish this diverse and important part of total patient care, we rely upon the expertise of our professional staff and up-to-date equipment and technology. With those things, we can run a variety of tests.
We do this by staffing our lab from 6am-12am with a technologist on call from 12am-6am
