Philosophy of Perinatal Care:

Birth is part of the miracle of life and thus a profound experience that belongs to the woman and her family. Pregnancy, labor and birth are natural physiologic processes. Most women do well with support and selected minimal intervention.

It is our privilege to facilitate, rather than control the childbirth process to enhance the best possible outcomes for women and their newborns.

Critical assessment skills for identifying women and infants at risk are essential for perinatal nurses.

The OB department at MHCC is a two bed LDRP Unit with overflow postpartum beds available. The unit averages 115 deliveries per year. Our nurses must be proficient at many areas including Ante partum, Intrapartum, Postpartum, Nursery and stabilizing critical mothers or neonates for transport to a tertiary faciility.

Our patients have a unique experience in that their intrapartum nurse may also be their Postpartum and Nursery Nurse. Since we serve a small community we get to know our patients.
