CARBON COUNTY WYOMING... http://www.wyomingcarboncounty.com/html/rawlins.html Community Information Carbon County is located in the south-central portion of Wyoming and is the third largest county in Wyoming. Its southern boundary is the Wyoming/Colorado border. The Continental Divide, which separates the nation's eastern and western watersheds, runs north and south through the county. The county is bounded on three sides by abrupt mountain ranges. The fourth boundary is the broad plain of the Red Desert. The county is a study in contrast - from snow-capped mountains and high plateaus to vast prairie lands and desert basins. The valley of the North Platte River in central Carbon County is one of the most productive livestock raising areas in Wyoming. The Rawlins Parks & Recreation Department offers 60 acres of developed parklands and over 200 annual programs in cultural arts, adult and youth athletics, crafts, aquatics, and therapeutic recreation. A variety of other recreational opportunities are available throughout the county. These include cross-country skiing, snow-mobiling, fishing, hunting, golfing, boating, rock climbing, etc.
Community Coalitions The Carbon County Community Resource Council is a nonprofit organization with a large number of health and social service provider representatives in its membership. CRC has made tobacco use prevention a priority and continues to coordinate local health and social services, as it has for a number of years. Carbon County Memorial Hospital is among those working with Ivinson Memorial Hospital in Laramie on health planning, funded by the VHA, Inc., rural health network outreach grant. A Rural Development Council assessment was completed in Rawlins in mid-September, inventorying community needs and assets (for a copy of the assessment or more information, call RDC Executive Director Mary Randolph, 777-6430). |
