As you are likely aware, local leaders have recently decided to evaluate options for the future management of Memorial Hospital of Carbon County. Since 2010, Quorum Health Resources has been honored to serve as the hospital’s management partner supporting the board, leadership team and dedicated employees at the hospital. On behalf of the many QHR representatives who have served on the Memorial Hospital team, I want to take a moment to reflect on the time we’ve spent in your community and say thank you.

From doctors and nurses to administrative and dietary staff, Memorial Hospital is home to hundreds of individuals who exemplify compassion, integrity and excellence in everything they do. Their dedication to the work is a testament to the spirit and strength of this community.

Thanks to the partnership of our Memorial Hospital colleagues, we have had a productive relationship these past eight years. Here are just a few of the things we have accomplished together.

We’ve improved the hospital’s financial stability.

When Memorial Hospital first engaged QHR in 2009, the hospital was losing $3.3 million on its operations and had $1.2 million in the bank; the organization ended 2017 with a nearly $3 million profit and it has decreased its reliance on local tax dollars more than 30%. These improvements are the culmination of our efforts, working with the Board, medical staff and employees, to improve the hospital’s efficiency and grow its revenue. For example, QHR’s national purchasing power has saved the hospital $1.5 million since 2010 through group purchasing, shared savings and other discounts. By moving the organization to solid financial ground, Memorial Hospital is able to better meet the health care needs of the community and reinvest in its facilities – while providing meaningful jobs to approximately 170 local residents and generating an annual payroll of more than $10.5 million.

We’re recruited top talent.

As Memorial’s operations and financial performance have improved, the hospital’s leadership team and board have been able to attract and retain several high-quality medical providers. The Rawlins community now benefits from the addition of four family practice providers, two obstetrician-gynecologists, two emergency medicine physicians, an orthopedic surgeon and a general surgeon. These professionals help ensure you have access to quality primary and specialty care services close to home. In a time when countless community hospitals have been forced to reduce services due to a lack of physicians and clinicians and a resulting decrease in patient volumes, Memorial Hospital has thrived.

We’ve strengthened the hospital’s management infrastructure.

QHR has also brought national hospital management expertise, resources and best practices to support the ongoing management of Memorial Hospital. We’ve delivered more than 100 continuing education opportunities to hospital staff and board members, helping enhance their skills and understanding of the everchanging health care landscape. From educating physicians and administrators on quality and patient experience measures to updating board members on health care policy changes in Washington, we’ve made sure your community hospital has access to the tools and resources necessary to operate efficiently and deliver high-quality care.

These accomplishments – and many others not listed here – were possible only through the productive and genuine partnership extended to us by the hospital’s board, dedicated employees and outstanding medical staff. It has been our great honor to support them in positioning the hospital for a strong and sustainable future.
