Memorial Hospital of Carbon County will be able to assist uninsured and under-insured Carbon County residents with funds for screening and diagnostic imaging due in part to a grant received from the Wyoming Breast Cancer Initiative of the Wyoming Community Foundation.

Memorial Hospital of Carbon County is a nonprofit organization serving Carbon County with Full Field Digital Mammography, Breast Ultrasound and biopsies. Memorial Hospital of Carbon County has worked to aid Carbon County residents with funding for screening and diagnostic breast imaging; to raise awareness for the importance of screening mammograms in Carbon County and beyond; to assist with patient navigation with other Wyoming facilities to provide the patient with the services they need for proper breast health and believes funds received will strengthen the work being done.

According to Dr. Veigel in a recent interview with Rawlins Daily Times, one in eight women will develop breast cancer. He stated that Breast cancer is most commonly seen in women between the ages of 45 and 74 years old. Screening mammography is the best imaging tool for early detection. Remember, early detection is your best protection!

Community member, Sue Ballou, says the MHCC projects have been incredibly positive to the community.  The grant funding will be available for screening and diagnostic imaging to the uninsured and under-insured women. Funding will also help with supplies, advertising and education to increase awareness for screening mammograms and the importance of proper breast health. WBCI grant funding plays an important role in Carbon County; assisting the community with the available funding to receive proper breast imaging. It also allows us the ability to help with patient navigation through collaboration with other grant recipients in Wyoming, by getting the patients to the appropriate place for their breast health exams and procedures.
