In response to a number of recent questions and concerns, the following information has been compiled for the benefit of the community.

Q:  Is MHCC able to care for COVID-19 patients?
A:  Yes.

Q:  Is MHCC “full”?
A:  While we are seeing a marked increase in COVID-19 activity/cases and do have ICU patients currently admitted, MHCC is a 25 bed facility and is NOT full.  In the case that our 6 ICU beds become full, we still have the ability to treat other patients (both COVID-19 and non COVID-19).    We have prepared far in advance in the event that our 25 beds do become full.  This is part of Memorial Hospital of Carbon County’s Emergency Disaster Plan.

Q:  Is MHCC turning patients away?
A:  No.  It is illegal and unethical to turn patients away.  We will continue to provide medical treatment to all individuals, Emergency Room and otherwise.

Q:  Are surrounding hospitals (tertiary care facilities) able to accept patients from Memorial Hospital of Carbon County?
A:  Surrounding facilities have limited beds for COVID-19 patients.  However, they are still able to accept and treat non-COVID-19 patients at this time.  It should be noted that this situation is ever changing.

Q:  Can I get a COVID-19 test at the MHCC Emergency Room?
A:  Yes.  Please note that this option should only be used in emergent situations and if you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.  We do not test for asymptomatic exposures in our Emergency Room.  Those tests need to take place at our Family Practice Clinics so that we are able to provide care for both COVID-19 and non COVID-19 patients are that are ill.

Q:  When should I be tested if I have been exposed or am feeling ill?
A:  For an exposure, you should be tested 5-7 days after the exposure.  If you are feeling ill, you should be tested 3-7 days from the onset of symptoms.  This is because it takes some time for the viral load in your body to be detected.

*Important:  If you are feeling ill, you should seek medical attention immediately, via your primary provider or the Emergency Room.

Q:  If I have been exposed, can I get a free test without seeing a provider?
A:  Yes.  Free tests are available at the MHCC Family Practice Clinic from 8:00 am to Noon, Monday through Friday, by appointment.  Tests can also be provided at the MHCC Health Center-Platte Valley and MHCC Family Practice Clinic-Hanna; please call in advance for an appointment.
