Dr. Abels was born in Iowa and raised in Arizona. He received his undergraduate degrees from the University of Arizona with a BS in Chemistry and Biology and a minor in physics and psychology. His stretch as a patient for 30 days when a senior in high school led to his decision to become a physician, he said. Dr. Abels has been a TV cameraman, a photographer for a newspaper, and resident assistant in chemistry to help pay for medical school at the College of Osteopathic Surgery and Medicine. He wanted to live in the west and loved Wyoming… so Rawlins became his home. He enjoys football (Denver Broncos and Wyoming Cowboys) as well as motorcycling. What he enjoys about being a physician is “being able to constantly help one person”.
