Moving Forward for the Future of Healthcare

A: Specifically, it is a property millage. All property subject to the millage of the MHCC Hospital District, provides the funds for the purchase of capital equipment and facility improvements for Memorial Hospital of Carbon County.

A: Yes! This is a new tax that covers a very specific area of Carbon County. A: Hospital districts fulfill a vital role in the state and local healthcare systems. Without them many people would be unable to receive healthcare in their own communities. Hospital districts are authorized not only to operate a hospital, but to deliver any service to help people stay healthy—physically, socially, and mentally. Creating healthcare districts allows community members to work together to address shared concerns and ensure medical services are available. With over 600 critical access hospitals across the country at risk of closure, it is imperative that we take action now for the long-term sustainability of healthcare services in Carbon County!

The proposed district does NOT include all of Carbon County.  Specifically, Medicine Bow, and the two valleys (Platte and Little Snake River) have been excluded because they either have their own district or other healthcare options that would likely result in voters not supporting a district for MHCC. Rawlins, Hanna, Sinclair, and Muddy Gap residents, as well as citizens within specific unincorporated areas of the county, are included in the district boundaries and would see the initiative on their November ballot.

The new mill will maintain the high standards of quality care by providing state-of-the-art equipment and technology and help us maintain the physical facility and infrastructure. MHCC Managers were asked for their input when deciding how funds should be used!

“Good healthcare is the backbone of good communities.  Hospitals are one of the largest employers in their communities and provide safety net services to ensure residents and visitors are kept safe and healthy.  Having a hospital and adequate healthcare services is one of the driving forces in allowing businesses to recruit and retain employees and their families.  Many of the small rural hospitals in Wyoming and across the county struggle financially and having a mill levy provided through a special district helps ensure hospitals have adequate funding to maintain the necessary services in the communities they serve.  Most of the critical access hospitals in the state of Wyoming are special hospital districts and are funded through mills.  Rawlins needs and deserves great healthcare and by passing a special district on the ballot, citizens and businesses are taking a strong stand that they want healthcare to remain in their community.  For residents, it is literally pennies on the dollar to support the hospital and the great professionals that serve their communities.”

Eric Boley, Wyoming State Hospital Association President

“With over eight thousand square miles of county, a state penitentiary, Interstate 80, and countless outdoor recreation opportunities, the need for a hospital in Carbon County is without question. I commend the Memorial Hospital of Carbon County, their staff, and their Board of Directors for working to find long-term, sustainable funding solutions to continue MHCC’s independent operation within our community.”

Sheriff Alex S. Bakken

“Memorial Hospital of Carbon County is vital to its community as a critical access hospital, serving as a cornerstone of healthcare in a region where access to medical services can be limited. This facility provides essential, comprehensive care for residents in a rural area, offering emergency services and acute care that might otherwise require long travel to larger urban centers. Its presence ensures timely and localized medical attention, which is crucial for managing both everyday health needs and urgent/emergent situations. By delivering high-quality care close to home, MHCC not only enhances the overall health and well-being of its community but also supports local economic stability and reduces the strain on patients who would otherwise face significant travel challenges. In essence, it is a critical resource that fosters a healthier, more connected, and resilient community.”

Dr. Daniel Wandsneider, Rural Family Physicians Hospitalist Group

“I have been to MHCC for multiple services, and I am impressed. My care team always kept me in the loop with what is going to happen next and what to expect. They are super caring and treat me like a person, and not a number. This is the best team I could ask for! Thanks again to everyone who has provided me with such great care!”

Barlow C.

“My experience at Carbon County Hospital was exceptional. The staff were caring and professional, the facilities were modern and clean, and I felt well-supported throughout my entire visit. I highly recommend Carbon County Hospital for anyone seeking top-notch healthcare in a welcoming environment.”

John S.

“I underwent major surgery at MHCC. My surgeon, nurses, and CNA’s made my stay so special. The care I received was exceptional and the staff were extremely professional and knowledgeable. The willingness to go above and beyond to ensure my every need was met was incredible. I believe MHCC deserves the opportunity to care for you and your family!”

Michael G.

“Keeping a hospital in Rawlins is extremely important to the long-term viability of the communities of Carbon County.  Without a hospital, recruiting, and retaining employees to our area would be extremely difficult.  It is also very important that we maintain a local hospital to be able to provide immediate care to the residents of our county.  The closest major hospital is over 100 miles away in any direction.  We have long hard winters, and it is extremely important that we keep emergency care and other non-emergent medical care close at hand so the citizens of Carbon County and travelers on I-80 do not have to traverse treacherous roads to get the care they need.  In short, losing access to a local hospital like the one in Rawlins is not a viable option, and I would encourage the residents of Carbon County to support the initiative of a hospital district so we can keep our local hospital up and operational.”

Copper France, Bank of Commerce President and CEO

“I could barely walk I was in so much pain. After a consult, it was determined that I need a knee scope, and I was referred to Memorial Hospital of Carbon County. From the time I entered the hospital until I was discharged, I was treated very well. The staff took time to explain the entire procedure to me including anesthesia and answered my questions thoroughly. They gave me quality of life again! Everyone was knowledgeable, friendly, and courteous, taking time to listen to all of my concerns. Thank you to the entire team!”

Susan R.

Jennifer C.

“When I needed shoulder surgery, the MRI team, my nurses and surgeon, the anesthesiologist, and my physical therapist afterward, all played a crucial role in guiding me through everything and providing detailed explanations at every stage. I definitely recommend MHCC; everyone there works hard to give top-notch care to all their patients.”

Mark T.

“Everybody at the hospital went above and beyond the call of duty for me. They pushed to get my scans and lab work done as quickly as possible, and then when it was discovered that I had acute appendicitis they got me into emergency surgery. I truly believe that the care I received was much better than I would have received at a bigger hospital. That’s the reason I’m such a strong supporter of Memorial Hospital of Carbon County.”

Ashley K.

“The staff were wonderful from start to finish throughout my pain treatment procedure! From recognizing I was chilled and providing warm blankets to ensuring all of my questions were answered, everyone was so helpful before, during, and after my procedure! They explained what they were doing at every step, making me feel very safe and in good hands. There are very caring and compassionate people at Memorial Hospital of Carbon County that truly put their patients first!

Harriet M.

“MHCC plays a unique and vital role in Carbon County, providing critical healthcare services unavailable within hundreds of miles. It is a crucial resource for emergency care, screenings, and support services for cancer and disease. When my wife was in a serious bike accident the emergency response team from MHCC was right there on the scene within minutes. Once in the ER she was appropriately diagnosed and given the appropriate medication to stop the seizures that had caused her accident.  She was then promptly referred to a neurosurgeon specialist that could assist her with management of her condition. I will forever be thankful for the people of MHCC and for the blessing of having that facility so close so that situations such as ours can be appropriately managed and people can receive the medical care they need, when they need it the most.”

Nate Tanner, Clinic Director, PT, DPT Fremont Therapy Group

“Memorial Hospital of Carbon County not only provides critical healthcare services to our county, but they also greatly contribute to the health of our local economy. They are a large employer with 139 FT employees and over 35 part-time employees, which generates over $13 million in wages and salaries that are reinvested in our local economy. As a business leader myself, I can also attest to the importance of having strong healthcare services available when we are trying to recruit and retain employees. I strongly encourage citizens to consider the full impact of having a hospital in our community and working together to help secure MHCC’s future.”

Sabrina Hamby, Rawlins Market President, RNB State Bank
